Reaching Hotel
The easiest way for most tourists to reach Ptuj and Grand Hotel Primus is by driving a car. The town lies in the eastern part of Slovenia, easily accessible from motorways A1 and A4 that run between Ljubljana, Maribor, and the Croatian border. The hotel can be found very easily; it sits within the main thermal resort complex and carries an enormous added benefit of a large free secure parking area onsite – making it perfect as a road trip destination.
The two main airports serving international visitors by air are Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) in the capital of Slovenia and Zagreb Airport (ZAG) in neighboring Croatia. The drive from Ljubljana airport to the hotel is an easy one, taking approximately 90 minutes. From Zagreb airport, the drive is also about 90 minutes. Renting a car at either airport is the most practical choice as it will be necessary to have flexibility when exploring the beautiful surrounding wine regions. Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport (MBX) is much closer but has very few commercial flights.
Another option is by public transport. Take any combination of bus or shuttle from Ljubljana Airport to the main train or bus station in Ljubljana, then from there to Ptuj- with frequent and comfortable trains and buses that run between the two cities. The train journey from Ljubljana takes about 2-2.5 hours. Once at either the Ptuj train or bus station, it is a 20-25 minute walk to the hotel or a very short and cheap taxi ride.
